Watch Tracker for YouTube is a Chrome browser extension that counts the YouTube videos and Shorts you watch each day.

What data is collected

The extension records the following for each video you navigate to on YouTube:

• Video ID and title
• Whether it is a regular video or a Short
• The time you navigated to it

Where data is stored

Your watch history is stored exclusively in your browser using the chrome.storage.local API. It is never uploaded to us, and there are no servers, accounts, or analytics of any kind.

Network requests

The extension talks to YouTube itself — and only YouTube — for two things:

• Fetching each video's title from YouTube's public oEmbed endpoint (youtube.com/oembed).
• Loading video thumbnails from YouTube's image servers (i.ytimg.com) to display in the popup.

These requests send only the video ID of a video you are already watching on YouTube. No data is sent to the developer or to any third-party service, and your watch history itself is never transmitted anywhere.

How to delete your data

Click the extension icon and use the "Clear all data" button at the bottom of the popup. This permanently removes all stored watch history from your device.

Permissions

The extension requests the following permissions:

• storage — to save your watch history locally on your device.
• scripting — to start tracking in YouTube tabs that were already open when the extension was installed or updated, so you don't have to reload them.
• youtube.com host access — to detect when you navigate to a video or Short.
